“Since the start of quarantine, mobile gaming has been the top pastime of Filipinos. At the same time, GCash has recorded its highest number of users to date. Thus, we decided to bring more fun to GCash. Now, it’s not simply a pastime, but GCash users can earn money from gaming as well,” said GCash President Martha Sazon in a press statement.
GCash super app is coming
The GCash lifestyle super app will make use of GLife, a new feature on the GCash app that allows users to access and transact seamlessly with different GCash partners. The services cut across different industries such as food delivery, retail, and gaming. This means GCash users will no longer have to deal with the hassle of downloading multiple apps for each service.
Its partnership with Goama Games allows GCash users to enjoy full and unlimited access to hundreds of exciting, skill-based games for free all through one app.
Every week, users can join the GCash Mobile Game Tournament through the GCash app for as low as Php15 to Php50, or even for free, and get the chance to win prizes for setting the high score for games of their choice.
Anyone with a registered GCash account can play multiple tournament games plus new featured games to be introduced every week. To track their rank, scores will be visible on the leaderboard once they complete a particular session of the game, which will be updated if they get higher scores as they play.
There are two modes for tournaments: Practice and Paid. Practice Tournaments are for casual gamers looking for stress-free gaming to get the top score and a chance to win a prize. Meanwhile, Paid Tournaments are weekly challenges that will pit players against each other to secure the top score objective and will have multiple winners per tournament.
Among the six highlighted games for the first round of tournaments are Panda Sling, Flip Jump, Hexagon Fall, City Protector, The Escape, Hit the Knife, and City Protector, which contains reminders on health and safety protocols as part of the campaign to flatten the curve. Addicting and easy to understand, these games can be accessed through the GCash app.
Competitive casual gaming
“For most of our millennial users, Goama Games brings back the nostalgia of trending online Flash games back in the day. It’s the perfect way to unwind at the end of a long day because it does not demand much effort from users when they play,” Sazon said.
The main objective for these games is simply to get the highest score possible.
“We are proud to be working with GCash to introduce competitive casual gaming in the Philippines region. We believe in Doing Good through Gaming and it is reflected in this partnership. GCash users will definitely enjoy a fun-filled experience and new love for mobile casual games on our tournament platform,” said Goama Games CEO Taro Araya.
Aside from gaming, the new GLife feature will also allow GCash users to have their groceries delivered from PureGold, or even get food from upcoming restaurant partners, all through the GCash app.
“GCash is transcending the definition of a mobile wallet and is making its way towards being a lifestyle super app. With just one app, they get unlimited access to everything they need, sparing them from the hassle of finding ways to reach their preferred brands,” Sazon said.
Globe Fintech Innovations Inc. (Mynt), which operates GCash, is part of the portfolio companies of 917Ventures, the largest corporate incubator in the Philippines wholly owned by Globe Telecom Inc.
Meanwhile, Goama Games has key partners in over 17 countries that have recorded more than two million minutes of game time per week.
